SAYVILLE,NY— Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home is one of the oldest businesses in the Sayville area of New York. Founded in 1874 by Charles L. Raynor, the firm remains a family owned and operated business to this day.

For most of its existence, the funeral home was located on Main Street in downtown Sayville. After serving in Viet Nam and returning home to Long Island in 1967, Gilbert J. D’Andrea began working with the firm. He moved to West Sayville and eventually became a partner in 1969. Around this time, the partners recognized the need for a larger facility and acquired the present location at 245 Montauk Highway in West Sayville. In 1995 his son, Richard, joined the firm to continue in the family tradition and in 2004 purchased the business.

By 2012 it was becoming apparent that the funeral home’s original preparation room was approaching the need for an upgrade. That is when Richard D’Andrea contacted Duncan Stuart Todd, Ltd., the Preparation Room Specialist, to start exploring what a remodel might entail. At the time, the city was lagging behind on its promised new sanitary sewer line that would get the facility off a septic system and connected to the new service. The decision was made to wait for the expansion of the city services. What began as a “short wait” eventually became 2017 by which time Richard felt the new prep room needed to get underway regardless of the city’s schedule. Once again, DST was called on to move the project forward.

To address the funeral home’s needs, DST designed a new prep room that would use electric aspiration and divert embalming waste away from the septic system. Combined with the OSHA compliant PrepAir HVAC system and a full array of modern equipment, conveniences and cabinetry,
construction on the new Raynor & D’Andrea preparation room began in late 2017 and was completed in early 2018. With his new facility now up and running, D’Andrea commented, “I wish I had done the renovation ten years earlier. The difference in the efficiency and appearance of the new room is remarkable and Duncan and his team made the process as easy as it could be.”

Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Homes continue to provide a full range of services to families of all faiths in their communities. In addition to the West Sayville location, the Bayport Funeral Home became a Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in 1994. Traditional funerals comprise the majority of the services at their locations, but direct burial, direct cremation, memorial services or almost any type of arrangement a family might request are also warmly embraced by the funeral homes.
